Voluntary inspection is usually carried out in order to evaluate the condition of a vehicle, before buying a second-hand car or after having it repaired at a garage. Voluntary inspection is independent of and does not substitute the roadworthiness test (KTEO) provided for by the legislation in force. According to the law, voluntary inspection may be carried out only on vehicles for which a valid roadworthiness certificate was issued (if 4 years have passed from the date of purchase as new vehicles). If such a certificate is not issued, then a roadworthiness test must be carried out and the relevant roadworthiness certificate must be issued. Obviously, vehicles with foreign registration plates or vehicles for which no roadworthiness test is required (for example vehicles that are less than 4 years old), may undergo voluntary inspection.
Documents required for voluntary inspection:
Vehicles with Greek registration plates
- Registration certificate
- Identity card or passport or driving license of the person who brings the vehicle for testing
- Valid roadworthiness certificate (if the vehicle is required to be inspected)
Vehicles with foreign registration plates
- Registration certificate
- Identity card or passport or driving license of the person who brings the vehicle for testing
** No special sticker is attached to the vehicle registration plate.
